Tara followed her County Championship triumph with an astonishing display at the English Women’s Amateur Championship, where she finished as the runner-up to Hertfordshire’s Charlie Douglas.
After qualifying for the match-play stages in blustery conditions at Lindrick Golf Club, Tara showed some true grit to come back from two-down with two to play before chipping in on the 19th to win her first round.
Tara then braved yet more bad weather to soar through the talented field – earning plaudits from England selectors for her outstanding short-game in the process – before winning an epic semi-final encounter with former Curtis Cup player Emma Brown on the 20th hole.
Unfortunately, because of the weather, Tara’s semi-final was not completed until the morning of the final, and it seemed to count against her as she went four-down early on, and despite a good comeback she eventually lost the match 3&2.
The final result wasn’t what we all wanted, but Tara has done herself and the club very proud, and her efforts have not only moved her up to fifth in the EWGA’s Order of Merit, but has also put her in line for a call-up to represent England in the coming months.
