It was a beautiful day in June when Muswell Ladies met their first opponents: Finchley Golf Club at Stanmore. The team were in top form and Captain Mandy Miller who had flown back from Ireland especially for the event was determined the team could do it after MHGC won the first two matches easily.
However, heartbreakingly the next three matches lost and suddenly MHGC were in jeopardy needing the remaining two players to win. Maureen Campbell was 1 down standing on the 18th tee and Margaret McGillen was 3 down standing on the 15th tee. Both ladies dug deep and fought a brave battle resulting in them taking Finchley up the 19th to an unbelievable win for both!
Within half an hour the ladies were back out for battle against Hampstead (2007 winners) in the final. Already buzzing from such a tremendous win there was no stopping the ladies. MHGC won the first 4 out of 5 matches to become the 2009 Pearson Champions!
A truly memorable day for us all - a victory we had not had since 1996 and it was a welcome return!
