Seniors Summer Meeting Report 2018

On Thursday 30th August, North Middlesex Golf Club hosted the Seniors Summer Meeting, which was well attended by 52 ladies, with Judith Pederson organising and prize-giving, mainly to the Ladies of Muswell Hill.

There were some very good scores with four pairs on 40pts:

Mary Barber/Jo Reid (Muswell Hill)
Maureen Campbell/Irene Easton (Muswell Hill)
Margaret McGillen/ Noreen Sullivan (Muswell Hill)
Tina Wilkinson/Tricia Saunders (Finchley)
Even countback over the back 9th, 6th, 3rd and 1st hole couldn’t separate two of the pairs, awarding equal 2nd place.

However, retaining the Hume Goblets they won last year, 'The Lesley's' - Blumberg and Whiterow were delighted to win again with 43 points! Congratulations, Ladies!

2018 Muswell Hill Golf Club Scratch Open

This year's 36-hole Scratch Open took place on Friday 3rd August with 43 players taking part in the blistering heat. After the morning round, only 4 shots separated the leaders but Nya Fraser-Lawrence from Hendon Golf Club kept his cool in the afternoon to win the event by 4 shots over Rhodri Harston from Muswell Hill GC. Well done Nya on your 2 sub-par rounds of golf!

2018 Mixed Open

The Muswell Hill Mixed Open has made its comeback after 20 years in the wilderness. The decision to incorporate it with the Andy Moruzzi Trophy was an inspired one!

However for 2018 there will be no non-Muswell Hill names on the trophy as Tim Jones and Ines Hellmayr won with the renewal with a great score of 39 points.

Rina Moruzzi was on hand to present the trophy in memory of her late husband Andy, a former Captain, President and Life member.

We hope the event can grow with participants from other clubs as well as support from Muswell Hill members.

Mandy Miller and Bill Carey win inaugural Middlesex Mixed Open

The inaugural Middlesex County Mixed Open took place on Friday 13th July at Enfield GC. 24 pairs of Middlesex's finest lined up on a glorious day to do battle.

Steve Walsom and Samantha Kang were the names on everyone's lips after blitzing the field with 50 points in the Muswell Hill Pros Day. However on a high scoring day it was the "experienced" pairing of Mandy Miller and Bill Carey who lifted the trophy with 47pts (on countback) just edging out three Enfield pairings. Steve and Samantha finished 6th with a creditable 43pts. Mandy and Bill shared 7 birdies in a four under gross round and had Middlesex County Secretary, Jason Mitchell, to thank for it as he had twisted their arms to support this new event!

This event was generously sponsored by Chamberlain De Broe and as well as being the first names on the new claret jug the winners received a veritable mountain of prizes included two magnums of Moet!

The date and venue is yet to be confirmed for next year but get in on the "to do list". Details will appear on the Middlesex golf website: https://www.middlesexgolf.co.uk

Can You Play This Fast?

Guinness World Records have ratified Devon speed golfer Steve Jeffs' world-best time for completing a 500-yard par-five hole.

In August, he completed the hole at Tiverton Golf Club in one minute 50.6 seconds, beating the previous record of one minute and 52 seconds set by Phil Naylor on a course in Scotland in 2005.

In speed golf, the 18-hole score is worked out by adding the number of shots to the minutes taken to complete the round.
